Paragliding Sites in Ireland

Ireland has a swathe of wonderful paragliding and hang gliding sites to suit all skill-levels, wind directions and types of flying. As free-fliers, we decide where to fly based on the weather conditions of the day (we always launch from a hill / mountainside facing into wind). At coastal sites we can soar proud cliffs and dunes, dancing playfully in calm, laminar sea-air. The inland sites can be more lively (especially during Springtime and Summertime) where rising columns of relatively warm, moist air can act as a virtual spiral staircase to the clouds!

Irish Hang Gliding & Paragliding Association WebsiteMost of these flying sites are on private land, for which the IHPA and UHPC have worked dilligently to negotiate Ulster Hang Gliding & Paragliding Club Website access rights. It's important that we respect the land, keep clear of livestock and leave no trace whatsover. For tandem paragliding, I prefer to fly at locations where the walk-up, launch and landing points aren't particularly extreme. I have marked, on the map below, a selection of sites in Ireland that are particularly suitable for tandem flying...

Here is a list of some of my favourite sites for tandem paragliding accrosss the country. It's not exhaustive, but will give you a good idea of the places we fly. I organise my expeditions using an email mailing list; people who have booked 'Air Experience' tandem flights will be notified of proposed flight locations and times a couple of days in advance. Those who are available, will confirm their eagerness and then more comprehensive plans are agreed. A confirmation email / text will usually be sent on the morning of the activity, following a review of the latest weather forecast. Despite careful planning and observant forecasting, its still not unheard of to arrive on site only to find the weather is not as expected. An hour or two spent on the hill 'para-waiting' and even a trip home without having left the ground can happen. But we will get you flying - and it will be worth every bit of patience in the world!
